Moondog at Annecy’s 2012 Animation Festival!!

The MOONDOG team is here in Annecy making sure the word gets out on the awesome projects we have to show. We have an official meeting space in the professional market (MIFA), and rendez-vous are lining up!
We even managed to convince Bryan that the weather is always nice in Annecy! (He’ll probably figure out the truth when it pours tomorrow…)

We’re hard at work getting ready for MIFA in Annecy, France this coming week.  We’re excited to have the opportunity to present our series ID - The Life and Trials of Willy Grunch as well as other products to the crowd of television and film executives.  Thanks again to all of our Kickstarter Backers who made this opportunity that much better.  We hope to have gleaming reports about what goes on next week. Stay tuned!

So with the good news comes the bad.

The good news:
Our workout Wednesday campaign was a huge success.  Never did we think that it would incite 40+ people to give to our campaign.  We were awestruck by the support that our internet followers gave us and we appreciate it!!!  So much so that we are going to do it again next Wednesday.

Now the bad news:
Aside from our Robotic team member, known as “B.E.N.” or Bionic Engineered Nyctophile (something went wrong in testing and we got a discount!!), we are exhausted!!  Our arms are sore and we can barely type on the keyboard.  It’s going to be a long weekend trying to recover.

But have no fear.  This “Bad news” is really a wash when compared to the turnout we had. We will gladly do it everyday to receive the same kind of support we did on Wednesday.  Please help us out for the next few days while we recover and tell your friends, family and coworkers about our campaign. We’de appreciate the help.

The heart of it all

We’re excited about the great turnout for our Kickstarter campaign.  We might not have had the same success as Double Fine who got $1.5 million the first day.  But we’re not a 12 year old multiple awards winning company located in sunny downtown San Francisco either (someday maybe).  In any case we are a small independent group of guys that hope to live the dream of running our own successful animation business and we’ve got more than 21% and we’re not even halfway through.

Many people have said to us “but why $100K?” and “Aren’t you setting your goals a little high?”.  Well, quality animation cost money.  And we believe that if you truly like our product “ID”, that to ask for anything less would be dishonest.  We want to give you a quality product that reflects the artistic nature of the original artist and our staff.  We want everyone who has worked on, helped with and pledged money to ID, to be proud and excited about the final product.

WE HAVE DREAMS!!!  Dreams of making a quality product that speaks to people.  That makes them think and gives them a reason to come back for more.  We dream about stimulating ALL the senses and doing it through a high quality product that people want to have in their DVD… excuse me…. Bluray collection.  We’re proud of what we make and no matter what; we’re going to find a way to make it!  Hang in there.  We still have a few tricks up our sleeves.  Stay tuned at www.moondog-animation.com/kickstarter

“K” stands for…

Getting ready for the launch!!!! All the renders are done, compositing is practically wrapped up, sound design and editing are coming along fast, video editing is done, motion design looks sweet… the campaign is just moments away from going public! It’s almost unbearable not being able to just show it all right now!
So to help you keep patient, I’ll sit in and distract you for 30 seconds. You’re welcome.

So where’s all the goodies??  Not here yet!  We’ve literally been working around the clock to get our teaser polished up and out so that you can enjoy it.  Unfortunately, this makes us a little too tired to come up with clever post on our blog.  I can say that we are working hard and are about to crash on our desks.
Stay tuned though as we’re not far off from the finish line!!

Conceptual Animation…

Willy got a little messed up while I was exporting an animation… Conceptual art anyone?
Can’t show you anymore, but things are sooooooo close to being thrown online it’s crazy! Don’t go too far, you don’t want to miss this ;)

“ID” … A non-dialogue series?? Are you serious?  Yes we are.  Animation is all about movement and when properly employed can reveal the character’s thoughts through the use of body language.  Willy was a challenge for us that we were excited to take on.  The exaggerated movements of his body and face make him a challenge to create. However, they also allow us to give lively expressions that shows the spectator just what Willy is thinking.  His elastic jaw bone and contorting face give freedom of movement to the animator to show emotions and expressions that not even the best live actor could muster.  I mean just look at him! Don’t you feel it?  -Bryan R
